I Think I Died
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I am so sorry I didn’t post yesterday’s blog! I was so focused on school, that it completely slipped my mind! I have two papers due tonight and I was writing one last night. But! I’m writing it now, so please enjoy hearing about my near death experience (I’m exaggerating, it wasn’t that bad).
Okay, so yesterday was THE day. And by THE day, I mean we visited the Grand Canyon. So like I said two days ago, at night we went and got a preview of the Grand Canyon. We walked around some of the rim and got lots of pictures. We also went off the trail a tiny bit and went out on this landing to see the Canyon. Two girls were in front of us while we off roaded. They were hilarious! I offered to take a picture of them and they accepted. They had me take a Polaroid, that was so cool. Then yesterday morning, my family and I woke up and drove all of five minutes to the Grand Canyon. We walked two miles on the rim trail and then hiked 1.5 miles down into the Canyon. I felt great all throughout that and when we got to the bottom. Zane and I chatted with some people who had hiked from the opposite side and had slept down in the Canyon, they were on their way back up when we talked with them. After our break we had, gulp, the way back up….i died. Something you all need to know is, I am very out of shape. I’m not fat or anything but my lungs cannot handle 1.5 miles straight uphill out of the GRAND CANYON. We started out and I felt great and then gradually, I faded. I kept taking breaks because I couldn’t breathe. My legs were strong and those felt fine but my lungs were like “Micah, I shall make it hard for you to breathe thus making you DIE” I don’t know what I ever did to my lungs to make them feel that way towards me. I own up to the fact that I am out of shape. At one point in time in my life, I could’ve beaten any of you in an arm wrestling match (right after we moved back from Africa, I was a very ripped eight-year-old), but it’s been awhile since I willingly worked out. I no longer could beat any of you. Probably only like….one. I kid, but yeah it’s been a while since I’ve worked out that much. I prefer books and tiny hole in the wall places. Not hiking straight up hill!!! But anyway! I did eventually make it out and although it was close, I did not actually die. Just mentally did I die. I made a funny video with my dad though, I heard a lot of people enjoyed that. Including my mom who laughed A LOT. My point in all my ramblings is, I hiked three miles in the Grand Canyon and a total of seven miles. Everyone, I recommend hiking the Grand Canyon at least once in your life, just so you can say “I HIKED THE GRAND CANYON!!”
So after the Grand Canyon escapades, we stopped at the gift shop and then continued on our way to Phoenix, Arizona. One thing my whole family noticed while driving was the amount of cacti. There were fat ones, skinny ones, and dead ones. We found out that the cacti with more arms means they can get more water. Does that mean if we, as humans, had more arms then we’d get more water? Would we be less dehydrated??? Anyway, weird thoughts with Micah. Arizona is very dry, my nose feels like it’s gonna bleed at any moment. It’s also very, very hot. Like, a dry sort of hot. Me personally, I prefer cold weather. Give me rain and snow any day! But it’s still nice to experience Arizona and now I can say I’ve been there! We stayed at a lovely couple’s house last night and they fed us brekkie in the morning. I GOT BACONNNNN. I love bacon. OH and last night we got Chinese for supper, I know one of my friends loves Chinese so hah! In your face! I had Chinese and you didn’t! I’m such a nice friend, aren’t I? Anyway! I say anyway a lot, don’t I? Moving on! Yesterday was definitely full and long. But it was a good full and long!
Zane and I got to stay in beds tonight so that was a win! I was very exhausted after yesterday’s shenanigans so I’m sorry I couldn’t provide my meanderings for you all but here you go now! Also, I’m sorry but my pictures won’t load on my blog. I will catch you guys next time with more meanderings!
That’s so so nice Micah! I have really enjoyed reading this and to know that didn’t …. I meant you didn’t give up on the trails up 🙌 It’s ok! Love you girl .. keep them coming
