The Final Day

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I can’t believe it but the final day in this month long trip has come. The end has come. The final church visit and final RV ride has come. I can’t believe it. I know it all happened yesterday but still, it has come. Buckle up, for my last post of my month long trip! So naturally of course, my dad spoke at a church yesterday. A church in Belleville, Pennsylvania. I was severely struggling to focus during his talk because I had heard it so often. This church provided two services and during the first service, I sat in on the 11th and 12th grader’s Sunday school and then during the second service, I only sat through half of the 9th and 10th grader’s Sunday school and then went to listen to my dad speak. I love hearing my dad give sermons, but I prefer when they are new. It was a good sermon though, I think lots of people enjoyed his sermon. I saw a lady in between services who was just so inspired by what my dad said about missions. She said she loved the way h...

Birthday Girlllll

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! So, I know I haven't said it much but today is my birthday. I mentioned it a couple of times before but I never really highlighted it. But yeah today was my birthday and at first, I was pretty glum cause it didn't feel like my birthday but my parents set up the GREATEST surprise ever.  So my parents started driving at 5:00 AM, guys I think their goal is to kill me with early mornings during the end of this trip. "Aw how did your daughter die?" DEATH BY EARLY MORNINGS, THAT HOW!!! But anyway, I woke up about three hours later and we only had three and half hours left. Okay so here I was, staring out the window most of the drive. You know, just listening to music. Then we pulled into the parking lot of the church. I saw a car with some balloons out the top and I said something really dumb cause I was still oblivious but then when we parked next to the car and THERE THEY WERE. My face changed dramatically and I rapidly got out of the car to gi...

Nothing out of the Ordinary

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Okay, I'm being so repetitive that I'm annoying even myself. But seriously, I did nothing today. Absolutely, nada. I rode for what? eight hours in a car? I'll find something to write about like usual though.  Okay, like I mentioned yesterday.....TODAY IS MY SISTER'S BIRTHDAYYYY!!! I'm so happy for her right nowwww!!! Naturally, the second I woke, I told her happy birthday. I love her so much, she's so amazingggg! During our driving, we stopped in the town my sister lives in to surprise her with lunch. We went to a Mexican restaurant and, naturally, I got a taco salad. The waiter was really nice about making sure everything was dairy free and he made the joke that I was paying when he came with the check. Guys I'm so broke, I couldn't have paid if I wanted to! After surprising Lydia, my dad checked her tires and then it was back on the road again! I'm gonna be completely honest with all of you.....I watched Trolls Band Toge...

Only Three Days Left!

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I know I am being repetitive in my introductions but honestly, today was boring. Again. We drove like seven hours? Maybe eight? My point is, we drove a ton today. Today did include something though. You know that feeling when you look up at something really tall and it feels like it’s gonna come crashing down onto you? You do? Great. Today included that feeling. So before we drove the seven or eight hours to wherever we are in Illinois, we stopped at a GIANT cross. So this is when that feeling comes in, I stood up next to the cross and it got wobbly and looked like it would fall on me! That feeling always makes me almost dizzy. But anyway, so the cool thing about this cross is that there were paths that directed you to other monuments. The other monuments walked you through the redemption of Christ and then also the death and Resurrection of Christ. It was really cool and my favorite section was a section where you have a piece of chalk and there were two cem...

The Second To Last Church

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Okay, I know for the past couple of days I've been saying, "Today is really boring! How am I gonna entertain you all???" But today, that is very true. I don't know how I am going to be able to entertain you all today. Like honestly, I did nothing today....I sure hope I figure it out. So this morning was surprisingly....calm. Usually I get woken up to my parents getting ready to drive away. But this morning, I got woken up to....I don't know. I just woke up. Which hasn't happened a lot throughout this trip. I usually get woken up by my parents or some noise. That is a nice change. I can't wait for my cocoon room though. I kid, it's not a cocoon but you all get my point. So after I woke up, we didn't leave right away, which was also weird. I guess we didn't have to desperately get anywhere. It was unusually calm and I loved it! Do you guys realize how exhausting it is to always be moving??? Yes I'm a nomad but the ...

Sweet Home.....Oklahoma?

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was a long day of, guess what? You got it, driving. Honestly, the further we get into the week, the more I wonder how am I gonna entertain you all. I'm sure I'll figure it out....eventually. Hmmmm, I know! I shall embarrass my best friend cause I know he reads this. TODAY IS HIS BIRTHDAYYYYY!!!! He's so old now....I kid but still. I hope he had a great day and that his friends at school embarrassed him too. He would be tortured if we went to the same school. He's probably thankful we live in different states....and I'm homeschooled. But anyway!  Today was like any other day. I woke up to my parents getting ready to drive like usual. But instead of falling back into blissful sleep, I stayed awake. Why does my body torture me??? Anyway. We drove about an hour and a half to this place called Cadillac Ranch. It has ten Cadillacs that were buried halfway underground. Only the tail end of the Cadillacs stick out of the ground. The group o...

Driving, Driving, More Driving

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was contradicting. One part was long and full of driving and then we had a section of fun and exploration and then we went back to driving. I'm gonna be completely honest with everyone, I have no clue where the heck I am. I think maybe Texas? Anyway! I'm going to write about my brother....without his permission....I know I'm a rebel. So this morning, my parents left at like seven am, I think they were out to get me, again. But I slept til nine while they drove. When I woke up, Zane talked my ear off! When people meet us, it always appears that I'm the talker and Zane is quiet. Well that was not this morning. The two of us also get asked if we are a couple or twins. People never just think we are siblings. AND to top it all off, they always think he's older just cause he's taller. But anyway! He was very chatty this morning when I woke up. He described it as he was talking and I was just saying "uh-huh, hmmm, m-hmm" but ...

We Are Nearing The End

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was not very exciting if I'm being honest. I'll find something to entertain you guys with but I'm not sure what it will be quite yet. I did forget to mention something that happened yesterday. When we were hiking down into the Grand Canyon, Zane and I were speedy and were walking past a lady. The lady then proceeded to fall flat on her butt. I thought Zane had shoved her. But after checking to see if she was alright, she said she was trying to go to the side so Zane and I could pass and she slipped and fell. The good news? Zane didn't shove her.  So today is Sunday....I think. The days are blurring together. I kid, I know it's Sunday because we visited a church. This is the third to last church. I can't believe there's only a week left. But I'm so excited at the same time! I miss my BED! And my youth group! But, let's be honest, mostly just my bed. I'm also excited for the fact that I can do school normally again....

I Think I Died

Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I am so sorry I didn’t post yesterday’s blog! I was so focused on school, that it completely slipped my mind! I have two papers due tonight and I was writing one last night. But! I’m writing it now, so please enjoy hearing about my near death experience (I’m exaggerating, it wasn’t that bad). Okay, so yesterday was THE day. And by THE day, I mean we visited the Grand Canyon. So like I said two days ago, at night we went and got a preview of the Grand Canyon. We walked around some of the rim and got lots of pictures. We also went off the trail a tiny bit and went out on this landing to see the Canyon. Two girls were in front of us while we off roaded. They were hilarious! I offered to take a picture of them and they accepted. They had me take a Polaroid, that was so cool. Then yesterday morning, my family and I woke up and drove all of five minutes to the Grand Canyon. We walked two miles on the rim trail and then hiked 1.5 miles down into the Canyon. I felt g...

I got my Dam sticker!

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I think you all can guess on what I saw by the title buuuuut just in case, we visited the Hoover Dam today. That wasn’t all we visited though. Please keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle at all time while the ride is in progress. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Okay first of all I need to warn you all. My family and I love, and I mean love to make the whole “I got a Dam rock, or Dam shirt” joke. Like we make that joke so much. With that out of the way, we visited the Hoover Dam today. We walked on a bridge and BOOM, there was the famous Dam. There wasn’t much to do at the Hoover Dam except well, see the Hoover Dam. To put it into perspective, it looked like, well a dam. Lots of structural sound thingys. And um tower stuff with power cables. Don’t I sound professional? Point is, it was a giant Dam. Dam tours are available but my family did not do that. We did go to a Dam gift shop and I got my Dam shirt, a Dam postcard, a Dam sticker, and a Dam rock. Why di...

Viva Las Vegas!

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I’m sorry I didn’t post this yesterday but I was so exhausted, I just couldn’t bring myself to type up my blog. I know you all will enjoy it even now though! So today was a big day. The day we came to Las Vegas. At first we parked the RV at Allegiant Stadium and walked about a mile away to the Las Vegas sign to, naturally, take a picture with the sign. Guys the line was so long, we waited 20-30 minutes to TAKE A PICTURE!!! It was worth it though! There was a guy, a professional photographer, who stood in front of the sign and took pictures of groups for free. He was very friendly and told us that one day, the high in Vegas was 120 degrees. It was only 86 degrees yesterday, so not too bad. After the pictures, we walked to In-and-Out Burger, which just felt like a mixture of Steak ‘n Shake and Five Guys. It was overall yummy and they had Bible verses on the bottom of the cups and fry holder thingys. After lunch, we went back to our RV so we could drive to our h...

All The Way To The Top

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was an incredibly full day! My legs are dead, I am dead exhausted but I had a blast! We hiked over four miles today and the view was spectacular. Please, sit back, watch (read), and enjoy my many hiking stories in the hot state of Utah.  So this morning I was roused from my bed at an unearthly hour. 6:00 AM PEOPLE!!!! I think my parents had it out for me. But anyway, we started towards Zion National Park and the rocks that were ready for us to climb. Our first stop was to prepare for what was to come and warm up the ole legs. Zane and I scaled some rocks and our parents freaked, naturally, until they saw how semi-safe it was! We hopped back in the car after climbing for a bit and drove to the trail for a canyon overlook. The trail itself was winding and rocky and so much fun! I took a ton of pictures and I even took some that would be worthy to be called senior pictures. When we got to the lookout point, it was an absolutely beautiful sight. The mou...

Ima Junior Ranger

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was a full day! I have so much to tell you guys and I don't know how I'll fit it all in! Something crazy is that I am now three hours behind most of you readers. So that's been weird. My friends keep texting me at 5:00 AM and I'm like "ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY WAKING UP THAT EARLY???" Yeah turns out it's actually only eight o'clock or seven o'clock from before we crossed another time zone. I was definitely goofy today and I know you all will enjoy my shenanigans!  Okay so the first thing we did today was drive an hour up a mountain. I know you're thinking, "Wow, up a mountain, that's sooo interesting" emphasis on the sarcasm. Well it was actually super beautiful and amazing. When we got to the top it was the Mesa Verde Plateau. Guys, it was breathtakingly beautiful. The clouds were wistful and soft, the blue sky reached forever, and the canyon twisted and turned like a snake slithering. We paid for a tou...

Guys, I Was Weird

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! I have no clue what I'm going to regale you with because today was BORING. Like literally we drove for nine hours. I stared out a window for an hour, slept for an hour, and I watched an unhealthy amount of Clone Wars. Oh who am I kidding, there's no such thing as an unhealthy amount of Clone Wars. Clone Wars is too great.  Anyway! We drove along some beautiful roads and countrysides and when we crested tiny hill, BOOM the Rocky Mountains loomed ahead. It was a breathtaking sight and foretold what our drive had in store for us. What the drive had in store for us was rain. Drizzly, at times heavy rain. I personally love the rain so this was of no problem to little ole me. I do think my dad didn't enjoy driving in the rain for most of the day though. We also passed a place called Chimney Rock and it looked exactly like a chimney so that was pretty cool! I did forget to tell you guys that yesterday, a bird ran into our windshield and made a big ole c...

Another Church…..Yay

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was….dull. It started like every day, myself waking and wishing I was still asleep. I dragged myself out of bed and got ready for church, made myself even cuter than usual. I used my big strong muscles to carry Rosedale stuff to the car. Then I made the mistake of leaning my legs against the car and ummm they live off a gravel road. Dust coated my thighs. I wiped it off real quick! When we got to the church, we speedily set up the table like usual. Then I had a random stranger come up to me and ask me if it was my birthday. Guys, my birthday isn’t for two weeks but how he knew it was in this month is beyond me. This random stranger turned out to be the youth leader and worship leader for the day. He then proceeded to have everyone sing happy birthday for me since I will be on the road during my birthday. It was very sweet of him, but caught me completely off-guard. I listened to my dad share again about RI and quoted along with some of it. Then afterwar...

Da Salt Mines

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was unusually salty. It was a good salty and guys I got to go to a bookstore! I got three books for super cheap too! And I got a little too much coffee today. Overall it was a great day if I'm being honest. Please, enjoy. Okay first up, why was today salty? I know all of you are wondering. Well here's why, I went to a salt mine. Gaspppp. I wasn't allowed to lick the walls which makes sense but also is a little sad. We went on this elevator 650 feet underground. The elevator ride was a bit sketchy in my opinion but that's because it was pitch black at one point in time. When we got to the bottom it was a giant cavern of mazes with plaques and giant rocks to look at and feel. It was so fascinating seeing all the artifacts and reading the history but by far my favorite was the area that held the movie props. I LOVE movies so to see the movie posters and props was so cool! We went on two different train tours and the second one was much lon...

On the Move

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was a usual chill but busy day. Those two usually don't mix and yet here we are. I was awakened to adorable little voices talking to my mom and it was a beautiful way to wake up. I chilled for a bit in my bed before braving the morning. I walked downstairs to the wonderful smell of....BACON! WHO DOESN'T LOVE BACON?!?!? Jada, you can leave because I know you don't like plain bacon. Anyway, the bacon and coffee were delicious! Shout out to Velma and the delicious food.  I played with my kiddos for a really long in the morning. We did all sorts of things like building towers, playing with hot wheels, swinging on the playground, and finishing puzzles. I think I might've made Adda and Cali addicted to press on nails. I was fixing my nails and they were watching, after gaining permission from their mom, I was allowed to put two nails on one of their hands. Then with my other spare nails, they gained permission from their mother, I put two fak...

FAMILY FRIENDS

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was an early start! My parents woke up at 5:30 am to start the drive from Arther, Illinois to Kansas City, Missouri. I woke up briefly when they first started driving and migrated to my parent's bed and slept for another hour or two. After I woke up, I chatted with my dad for about another hour until I decided to waste my life watching Gilmore Girls.  Can someone explain to me the point of Gilmore Girls and why it's weirdly addicting to watch it??? Like the whole show just has a ton of arguing and sarcastic comments that are really funny. I find myself laughing but at the same time, I'm bored with all the fighting that goes on between the main character and her mother. But anyway, that's enough of my thoughts on addicting Gilmore Girls. After our long drive, my mom had a meeting with the company she (and I) work through. THEN we were FINALLY on our way to visit our friends! We parked our RV in their yard and I bolted out to give everyon...

More Long Driving

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today marks a week and a half of traveling. Somehow we are back in Illinois. We backtracked! Today was incredibly....boring. I honestly have no clue what I am going to entertain you guys with. I'll try my best to retell stories with exciting detail. I can't make any promises though so if today is a bit boring, well then stinks to be you who's reading it. I'm kidding but seriously, sorry if it's boring. So naturally this morning I woke up at eight, cause I'm weird apparently and actually sleep in (we all know it's because I'mm homeschooled and lazy). But anyway, I couldn't do school in the morning because we left pretty quickly and I chose life instead of carsickness. We drove four hours(???) but before ALL THAT, we, naturally, went to Walmart. Guys, I splurged. I GOT ICE CREAM!!! I was so excited about ice cream. What is wrong with me??? The answer is a lot of things. But please we don't have time for that, moving on! ...

My Feet Hurt

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Today was an eventful and EXHAUSTING!! I woke up pretty late but that felt amazing. I contemplated doing school in the morning but my laziness won out. Instead, like any normal teen girl, I sat on Pinterest watching food videos and fantasizing about eating dairy foods. Eventually I stopped but I mean who wouldn't fantasize about food?  After my fantastic time dreaming about food, I ate lunch and my family set off on our first adventure, a tour of the Mark Twain Cave. It was very interesting and cold. I loved seeing the cave's walkways but, to be honest, the dark has always scared me. "Micah you turn seventeen soon. Why are you scared of the dark?" Well whoever asked me that, I've never liked the dark and probably never will. I'm not ashamed either. But anyway, the caves were very interesting and we saw where the bats used to hibernate. It looked like an alien was popping through the ceiling. We also were told part of the story of th...

No Ice Cream for Me

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens. I am going start wiring about the current day so if I confuse any of you well then stinks to be youuuu. I'm kidding but seriously, don't get confused. Today wasn't super exciting so I will try to make it seem as exciting as possible.  My delicious food Today consisted of practically nothing if I'm being completely honest. We drove to a lot of places but ended in Missouri. I was slightly miserable but I think it's just old memories resurfacing. I binged some Gilmore Girls during our drive. Guys, I'm not gonna lie I found it kind of boring but I enjoyed it at the same time. It just needed some action in my opinion. It was funny though and had some meaning in the stories. For lunch, we stopped in a tiny town and ate with a couple pastoring a church near there. we, once again, had Mexican but mannn it was good! I can literally never get old of Mexican food. Why is it so good! Afterwards we walked to an ice cream shop and my fellow foodies...

Second Church Party

Image
Hello fellow Homo Sapiens! Well well well, we made it to a new church. A lovely church in the middle of Nebraska called East Fairview Mennonite. Sunday was eventful and not eventful in the same way. Please, enjoy my retelling of our church visit! The previous night I had been up late doing school so Sunday morning I struggled to drag myself out of bed BUT eventually I did. I got myself all cute (who am I kidding, I’m always cute) and I readied myself for another church visit! I helped my dad set up his RI table with my usual speediness. And I sat myself down to listen to my dad’s usual talk. Once again, I’m pretty sure I could have given part of his talk about Rosedale International merely because ITS INGRAINED IN MY HEAD. But I enjoyed it just as I usually do! Everyone else seemed to have enjoyed it as well. After worship, my dad then gave the sermon and that was new to me so I listened with rapt attention (guys I lie, my brain has to be kept on a leash! It wanders so much!). But I li...

Race Day and Donuts

Image
IT'S BEEN A WEEK!! SOMEONE SOUND THE ALARM! *obnoxious alarm goes off* Guys....the week mark has past. It's official, I've stayed in the RV for a week now. Saturday was a very full day so everyone get ready for your hats to be blown off! Okay I'm kidding, but still hold on to your hats juuuust in case.  So Saturday morning started off with a bang! I had to wake up at 6:45 AM!!! I died right then and there. At least it wasn't 5:00 am though. But anyway, I woke up at 6:45 am and groggily climbed into a car with Roxieeeeee. I love you Roxie! She is absolutely amazing and such a great cook! After the car ride, we ended at this barn/shed structure. This was where the race started. What race you may be asking? The church my family visited, organized a race to raise money for Rosedale International. The miles varied for each person but we raised a ton of money for RI! We had some amazing cheerleaders dressed up in inflatable outfits. After people finished their races, don...

Long Day Driving

Image
Hello my fellow Homo Sapiens! I can't believe day six has come and gone. Guys, the week mark is unbelievably close! I've had a lot of fun so far and I'm excited for the days to come! Now my family and I didn't really do much. We left Iowa in the morning and drove to Nebraska.  Zane's Mac n Cheese burger Our drive was about four hours I believe (don't quote me on that, I could very well be wrong). I slept so solidly during the drive that when I woke up, I found TWO wet marks on the blanket from my drool. That's right, I drool and I am unashamed. Any of those drool haters can leave right now. But anyway, my nap felt amazing, I watched an episode of Once Upon A Time on my phone afterwards. Honestly, I can't tell you what I did for the majority of the ride because it is smushed in my head with other days. I do remember something from like day two that I forgot to share. Guys, I'm ashamed to say....I accidentally locked myself in the bathroom in the RV. I...

The Great Big Mall

Image
Hello my fellow Homo Sapiens!! Day five has come and gone and I already can’t believe it! Saturday signifies a week!!! AHHH ITS BEEN A WEEK!!!! Good news is that I have something big to talk about….the Mall of America!! Enjoy my retelling of our adventures of the Mall of America. Mall of America Okay when I say mall, I bet most of you just picture a plain ole mall with tons of stores and food stalls. But when I say Mall of America....it exceeds all of those thoughts. There was an amusement park INSIDE THE MALL!!!! With three roller coasters!! Okay, wait, saying roller coasters is being generous, one would be valid enough to be classified as a roller coaster. The other two were more like rides showing you the whole amusement park. They just got fast at times and curved. Zane and I rode on two of them, the one I would classify as a roller coaster and one that merely showed us the amusement park. But both were still fun!! My family and I shopped around for a bit (I say bit but it was more...

Crashing the Church Party

Hello my fellow Homo Sapiens!! Day four has come and gone. ITS ALMOST BEEN A WEEK!!!! I’M KINDA FREAKING OUT. I’m kidding, but it is crazy that it has already been four days. It feels like it has been a week and a half though. Today, sickness wise, was much better but granted, we didn’t drive as much today. A couple things I can’t wait to tell you guys is my shopping spree (by shopping spree I mean I bought three things), more delicious food, AND our first church visit!! Okay, first things first, Minnesota is still the state that holds my family and I. I still find it beautiful but the people are kind of eerily nice. Is it possible to be too nice? …..nahhh cause I’ve been told I’m nice (whoever has said that to me….I disagree. I’m a meanie head, just ask my best friend). Anyway, the people are really nice, I’m just being weird about it. I promised to retell my shopping spree and GUYS I found such cool pants!!! They are tie dye! “Ewww tie dye? Are you a hippie Micah?” Whoever asked that...
